Hebron Project Provides Hovercraft to Town of Marystown
A hovercraft donated by the Hebron Project to the Town of Marystown's Volunteer Fire Department is expected to significantly improve the department's rescue capability. The hovercraft can be used for rescue operations in icy, shallow or running water locations that are typically difficult to reach in emergency situations.
"Safety, at home and at work, is of utmost importance for the Hebron Project co-venturers" said Geoff Parker, senior project manager, Hebron Project, and vice-president, ExxonMobil Canada Properties. "The hovercraft can operate efficiently over multiple surfaces, including ice, which will enhance the ability of emergency personnel in Marystown and surrounding areas to respond in crisis situations and save lives."
The hovercraft flies on a cushion of air several inches over any relatively smooth surface, including ice, water, snow, grass, and marshes. It is designed to operate in both salt and fresh water, and is able to travel 30 mph (48 kph) on calm water and 50 mph (80 kph) on smooth ice. The craft has a double hull structure, full floatation capability and can be used year round.

This hovercraft will ensure that our firefighters can perform high risk rescues in all weather conditions in a safe manner," said Marystown Mayor Sam Synard. "The Town Council of Marystown has enjoyed a great relationship with ExxonMobil and its Hebron Project partners and we appreciate the donation of the hovercraft."
"The Marystown Volunteer Fire Department graciously accepts the donation of the hovercraft by Hebron," said Marystown Fire Chief Alex Coady. "This unit will greatly enhance the ice water rescue capabilities of the department and as well ensure the safety of our rescue personnel during such emergencies."
The hovercraft will be stationed at the Marystown Fire Hall.
The Hebron Project co-venturers are ExxonMobil Canada Properties (operator), Chevron Canada, Suncor Energy Inc., Statoil Canada and Nalcor Energy.
